This book is a masterpiece. My only problem is the supporting characters. I love the main character. She’s what I would call an anti hero and that’s a rare thing to find in books.

Illusive Emily LloydJones Books Reviews

My grand daughter actually loved it. A good read that keeps you wanting to come back and finish the book.
The imagination in this story is really well thought out. I enjoyed the characters and the dark history they shared. One thing that did bother me is the amount of cursing. I'm not into all the f-bombs this book contained. Not sure how it got a Grade 7-10 rating...
This book was incredibly slow going at first. At 35% through, I was so bored of it and frustrated that I was about to return it (something I have only done once before) when I thought I should read one more chapter. Luckily, in this chapter, the plot picked up enough to become interesting. I did finish this book, and really enjoyed the last few chapters. If you can get through the very slow start, and a fairly unlikeable main character, it's probably worth a read.
Reading Illusive, it seemed to be in a similar vein to YA catastrophe scifi The Darkest Minds. When you compare it to that series, this book's issues become apparent Super powers are endowed related to a virus (in this case, a vaccine that randomly affected the population, yet they all seem to be in the USA), the super powers are categorized and specific (although kind of bizarrely, and it seemed a bit forced to give them all weird names); the story takes place in the future (but the technology is mostly the same for twenty years in the future, while the Darkest Minds takes place perhaps two or three years in the future and handles it much more realistically (what's it with sci fi stories without sci fi these days?(), there's grey and grey morality (although our protagonist seems still pretty good and never does anything particularly atrocious or without justification); a character loses a parent due to their powers (whether you think it was more dramatic here or in The Darkest Minds depends on how you interpreted this book as a super hero story or not); there are dated pop culture references (but to be honest, classic rock is way cooler than Hello Kitty), and every organization is corrupted, even the government (which even in non-dystopian lit is to be expected).

I won't knock this book entirely, because I did enjoy the characters (although was there a romantic relationship between Kit and Magus or was I reading too far into their dialogue?) and the later part of the book, when the love interest is introduced, wasn't bad. When he joins the plot, things become more solid and interesting. The final battle was good too (if not a bit predictable). Either way this isn't a bad book, and it held my interest, but I kept checking off points where it seemed to knock-off The Darkest Minds, which is undoubtedly a better book.
Fun, fresh YA read. Lots of action, humor and no annoying romance. Waiting for book #2 Deceptive (July 2015)
Horror, Sci Fi, Comedy all these genres together in one book Illusive! Once you read two pages your automatically hooked. Read Illusive by Emily Lloyd-Jones.
